Anurag Kashyap, who has made some remarkable movies in Bollywood like Gangs of Wasseypur, Bombay Talkies and Queen recently expressed his views about censorship on the internet.

The film director, whose movies generally land up in censorship controversies, took to Twitter to say how Hotstar, the digital and mobile entertainment platform has mutilated the film Masaan.

He said that Hotstar is playing an edited and censored version of the film and further asked people to watch the movie on a pirated dvd instead of Hotstar.

Neeraj Ghayawan’s debut movie Masaan was largely acclaimed by critics in 2015, but this tweet by Anurag Kashyap brings to light the idiocy of the censor board.

When a film director, whose livelihood depends on people paying to watch a film promotes piracy, it tells us that something has gone wrong with the entire system of distribution and exhibition.

People expressed their shock on social media too.

Anurag Kashyap wasn’t the only one to let his heart out. The movie’s writer Varun Grover, when asked whether the film would be available on Netflix or not, out-rightly said that it is better to watch it on Torrents.

Although one official person from Hotstar replied to Anurag Kashyap saying that they do not edit films at Hotstar, he deleted it within hours of posting. However, Varun Grover was smart enough to take a screenshot of the tweet, questioning WHO exactly censored Masaan.

This came a month after the CBFC announced that censored parts of the movie will now stay out of the internet too, and it seems like that this is just the beginning of a world, monitored every step by the government.
