Shopping and finding a dress you like is therapeutic for many. But that simple joy resulted in a gross experience for a 24-year-old woman in New York.

Cailey Fiesel is suing clothing line Zara after claiming she found a dead rat sewn into a dress she bought from their store in Connecticut, reports New York Post.

She said the rodent was sewn into the dress, which she bought in July and hung in her closet, and took out to wear a few weeks later.

Fiesel realised this only when she wore the dress and noticed a “disturbingly pungent odour” and felt something poking her leg, according to the lawsuit filed. To her horror, that poke she felt allegedly turned out to be the leg of the dead mouse jutting out of the seam.

I froze – I was paralyzed with fear. I was in complete shock. My eyes saw that it was a mouse but my brain told myself it can’t be.

The shock changed to panic and Fiesel said she rushed to change in the bathroom as she luckily was carrying an extra set of clothes.

Now, she's suing Zara over ‘significant personal injuries and emotional distress.’ She also allegedly suffered a rash after the incident. She’s suing for unspecified damages, saying the retailer owed her a “duty of care” to manufacture dresses that were “free from defects, including rodent infestations,” according to New York Post.

Zara USA said that the company “is aware of the suit and is investigating the matter further.”
