With the release of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list on Saturday, 31 August, the ruling BJP government in Assam has said that those who have been excluded from the list, will have 120 days to appeal to the Foreigners’ Tribunals.

Despite this, many on Twitter asked, "where will the excluded ones go", once they are deemed immigrants.

Twitter was divided with those hailing the final NRC list and others expressing concerns with the exclusion figures.

The final NRC list after much delay found a total of 3,11,21,004 people eligible for inclusion while more than 19 lakh people found their names absent. This not only caused discontent with the Opposition parties, but even leaders within the party expressed displeasure with the exclusion figures.

Twitter meanwhile, on Saturday trended with hashtags such as ‘NRCassam’ and ‘FinalNRCList’. Many users on Twitter were divided over the list, with some hailing the work of the government while others expressing concerns over the exclusion figures.
