Kalank is a pretty loaded word, folks. In Hindi it translates to dhabba, daag and badnaami. In English it means ‘blemish’, ‘disgrace’, ‘slander’, ‘infamy’, ‘smear’, ‘spot’, ‘stain’, ‘stigma’, 'taint’ and 'tarnish’.
Whoa.
For those of us who don’t live by the moral science text book, here are the things that would qualify as a 'kalank’.
6 Things That Qualify As A 'Kalank’ In Real Life
Just Imagine if the romantic Rahul from Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai was a virgin. Now imagine if you were Rahul, the quintessential Casanova character. What is that dirty secret that you can share with no one? The V word.
Yes that virginity you wish would just lose itself, is such a blot on your cool guy image.
You have had a hard day at work and finally have an excuse to order a multi-cuisine food-orgy from Swiggy – one for every craving you have had at work all week. Only to come home to realize that your cook has lovingly made daal and your ‘favourite’ sabzee. You will be laying on the guilt thick if she finds that you have not eaten again!
The world sees you as that cool party girl who has so many places to go to on a Friday night but guess where you are seen. Politely sipping wine with your boyfriend’s parents at a sit-down dinner. Talk about a real stain on your finely carved public image.
You and your friends have made plans to fail final exams together. The Physics teacher has bored you all to tears all year. You know you are going to fail and so you may as well go down together. But then there is that one friend who ruins it all by secretly studying. Betrayal is a real blot to friendship.
You’ve made a pact with your trainer that you are going to lay off that alcohol, go to bed early and basically start behaving like an adult. He is going to be ringing your doorbell at 7 am sharp. But it is your hangover, not you that answers the doorbell.
You are still living in the parental nest and on your one cherished Sunday-off, your dad informs you that you have to go meet those relatives at a family gathering ( for which you must dress up). Can you afford to turn it down and proudly wear the badge of being the family’s ‘kalank’?
