I secured 50% in CBSE Class 12 board examination with Commerce. Could you please suggest colleges in Bhopal and Indore to pursue B.Com in Accounting and Finance? Also, is there any other course that I can opt for apart from B.Com?
Ankit Agarwal

Dear Ankit,

B.Com colleges in Bhopal offering Accounting & Finance include:

Here’s a complete list of colleges offering B. Com in Accounting & Finance in Bhopal.

Some other options for you include – Bachelor of Management Studies, Statistics, Economics, Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Business Management.

I scored 86.2% marks in PCB stream in CBSE Class 12. I wish to pursue English (Hons) or B.Sc Agriculture. I’ve applied in several colleges too. From the two, which course has more scope? And which colleges are best suited to pursue them?
Ishika Sinha

Dear Ishika,

Both courses are incomparable as both the fields are completely different. Honestly, you need to evaluate what you want to do, on the basis of your interest and skill set.

With an honours degree in English, you can work in creative fields like content writing, teaching, journalism & mass communication (after a PG degree in the field), law (at PG level), social work, consultant, SSC etc.

With B.Sc in Agriculture, you can also get a job in the banking sector or appear for UPSC exams and become a gazetted officer.

In addition, government jobs like District Cane Officer, Assistant Conservator, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited etc are also available.

You can also pursue Master of Science (M.Sc) in a number of agricultural field related subjects like plant Pathology, Entomology, extension through ICAR (which offers scholarships)

Is sociology a good course to opt for?
Devika Chakraborty

Dear Devika,

That depends on what you want to do regarding your career and if you have an interest in it or not. Since you have not mentioned your education background, we will not be able to suggest alternative course/career options for you.

The primary task of a sociologist is to research and accumulate the knowledge about social life. Based on the data collected, they research on the impacts and influences of the human behaviors to build up social relationships and social structures.

Sociology is a passion driven field. If you are determined to contribute to the betterment of the society as a whole, then sociology is a good option for you. You can get into field research or strategy building, depending upon the type of organisation you are working for.

Sociologists can work in various private and public organisations such as hospitals, clinics, social service organisations, criminal justice, law, media, schools and colleges etc.

I’ve got 88% in my Class 12 CBSE board exam. Which colleges can I apply in Kolkata for B.Com? Also, can I apply at a decent college at DU for B.Com?
Anuj Ankan

Dear Anuj,

Top B. Com colleges in Kolkata include:

To get admission into a ‘decent’ DU college, you will have to wait a while. Looking at DU’s cut-offs in the last two years, there are chances that you may have to wait till the 5th or 6th cut-off list to stand a chance of getting admission.

We will suggest you to apply to DU and take the chance, but as a safe bet, do apply to the best B.Com colleges in Kolkata as well.

I pursued Humanities in Class 12. My subject combination was Math, English, Psychology, Political Science and Sociology. I want to pursue English, Political Science as well as Psychology in the near future. Can you please suggest me the course I should opt for?
Suzanne

Dear Suzanne,

You can’t possibly pursue all three. Here’s the approach we think you should take. Of the subjects you’ve mentioned, in which subject did you score the most? That can be your first choice/preference for UG program. Then second, then third.

Or amongst these subjects, which one do you like studying and have an interest in? Prioritise the subjects accordingly and that will give you direction on which one you should follow, because clearly you excel in it.

I have secured 61.8% in Class 12 boards in PCM. I’m interested in doing BCA. Can I get admission in DU? What are the future prospects after BCA?
Shreshta Prabhan

Dear Shreshta,

The minimum cut-off for admission to BCA (Bachelors in Computer Application) in DU is minimum 60% in Class 12 exam with maths. But as you know, the CBSE percentage in 2018 has been very high, so the chances of getting into BCA in DU are meager.

However, you can try private colleges in Delhi NCR offering BCA course. Some of the top colleges include:

Here’s a list of BCA colleges in Delhi NCR. If you are open to exploring more BCA colleges, here is a list of the Top 10 BCA colleges in India, along with the selection process and fees. But please note that admission to BCA courses in many colleges is basis of entrance exams.

I have scored 61% in my Class 12 in (PCM). I am confused between BCA and civil engineering. My dream is to join IAS but I have little interest in engineering. Should I opt for civil engineering as it can be taken as optional subject in UPSC or take BCA because I am interested in computer?
Shaquib Asfaque

Dear Shaquib,

If your ultimate aim is to join the IAS, then we will suggest you to pursue your B.Tech. See, you can appear for UPSC after both – BCA and B.Tech, but the volume of contenders appearing for UPSC with a B.Tech background is far less than that of BCA. Your chances of making it through UPSC will be more, if the competition is less.

Besides, with a B.Tech degree, you can appear for not just the civil services exam, but also for the Engineering Services Exam (ESE)!

Can an Arts student without Math in Class 12 apply for BA Economics at SRCC or St Stephen’s college? If not, please do suggest some other universities that I can apply to?
Gyanesh Choudhary

Dear Gyanesh,

Sorry to say, but Mathematics in Class 12 is necessary to study Economics (Hons) in DU. All you need is a qualifying score in Mathematics, but it is mandatory. However, Mathematics is not mandatory to study Economics in private colleges like Galgotias University etc.

But honestly, why do you want to pursue a subject that is near about impossible to find? Opt for any other humanities subject from DU! You can even go for a professional course like graphic design, journalism etc.
