‘Friend,’ ‘sounding board,’ ‘secret-keeper,’ or simply ‘a nuisance’ – when asked what their sisters mean to them, the brothers had a lot to quip on.

“She is a soothsayer, I swear!”, exclaims 26-year-old Himanshu Dixit. Whenever something good or bad happens to Anand, turns out, his sister has already seen it coming, much to Anand’s chagrin.

Pradipta Basu, now 40, recalls having to watch god awful horror movies with his sister, who couldn’t stand them alone, back when they were still students. Though they left behind this ritual when adulting happened, she thinks he likes the genre of horror and calls him to discuss a new release or a series on Netflix.

What’s more, the idea of ‘protection’ in Raksha Bandhan is not a one-way street, anymore.

On the other hand, Anand Jayaram, who is 28 years old and working at a publishing house, proudly narrates how his sister would fight to save him from bullies. “The reason why she chose to become a speech therapist is because of the struggles I went through as a kid with speaking disorder.”

“Although she is a very capable person, I know I will do anything to protect her if she needs me,” Anand adds.
