On Thursday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) rejected the Law Commission's questionnaire on Uniform Civil Code and decided to boycott it.

Members of the Board slammed the government and accused it of “sowing seeds of hatred”.

In another claim made earlier, the Board had justified its validation of triple talaq by saying:

It’s better to divorce a woman than to kill her.

The AIMPLB, in its counter affidavit filed in the apex court, had also said that the contentious issue relating to Muslim practices of polygamy, triple talaq (talaq-e-bidat) and nikah halala are matters of “legislative policy” and cannot be interfered with.

This had led to women activists slamming the Board, adding the Muslim body has turned a blind eye to the plight of women suffering due to the practices.
