According to the CBFC, the film certificate body headed by the newly appointed Prasoon Joshi, women shouldn’t have sex during pregnancy. Yup. The body recently asked the filmmakers of Kalki Koechlin starrer Ribbon to cut down a hot and heavy scene involving a pregnant character.

Yes, a body that often functions as a censor, thinks pregnant women shouldn’t have sex.

Dear CBFC, let’s sit down for a Sex Ed lesson:

Brangelina may now be thing of the past, but back when they were together, she said being pregnant was great for their sex life.

Being pregnant doesn’t turn a woman into an oven. She remains a woman, with her desires and sexual organs very much intact. She has emotions (a lot of them) and she lusts.

Kalki’s character in the film is heavily pregnant and she wants to get her groove on with her partner. He is worried but she says it’s safe, she’s googled it.

Gynaecologists agree. They say it’s perfectly fine to have sex in a normal pregnancy. As the bump grows you may need to get creative on HOW you have sex, positions and all, but sex itself is just fine.

And no, a baby isn't hurt when a pregnant woman and her partner make love. The amniotic sac and the strong muscles of the uterus protect the baby. The thick mucus plug that seals the cervix helps guard against infection. The penis doesn't go beyond the vagina, so it won't reach the baby.

In fact, when you are past your due date and the baby decides to play truant, some doctors may even advise you to get busy in the bedroom to get those contractions going! Sex releases the hormone oxytocin into your bloodstream. Oxytocin prepares your cervix for labour, and can trigger contractions.

So there you go, CBFC. Let pregnant women have sex. Both on and off screen.
