Imagine getting a gonorrhoea that's not treatable. Goosebump inducing, right? But that’s what really is happening. According to Scientific American, the STD is becoming as “incurable as it was in the 1920s” because of its resistance to currently available drugs. A WHO announcement says that more than 60% countries surveyed around the world have reported cases of gonorrhea that resisted last-resort antibiotics.

What doesn’t help matters is the fact that STDs globally continue to be on a rise.

WHO reports that 1 in 25 people around the world has at least one of these STDs:

1.Chlamydia
2. Gonorrhea
3. Trich
4. Syphilis

Back home in India, NACO says every year about 6 % of Indian adults are infected with STDs/STIs. While in countries like Finland & Sweden, there has been a year-on-year increase of more than 40 %.

Coming back to gonorrhea specifically though, with rising infections and drug resistant versions of the disease on the rise, prevention seems the best cure.

So the next time before having sex, don't forget to use condoms!
