Dear India,

I have known you long enough to write you a short letter. First things first, many congratulations to you and all of us, as we celebrate our 69th Republic Day. Sixty-nine glorious years of our tolerant Constitution.

But these days, I am hearing that our Constitution is in danger? Who are these people who make such statements? I fail to agree with them. We are doing so well and are making our country proud.

I want to congratulate those Indians who made us proud – Mithali Raj, Anshu Jamsenpa, Manushi Chillar, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. To those army men who laid their lives to defend us, our deepest respect to them and their families. To all those journalists and citizens who were abused, trolled, and threatened online in the vilest of ways, a toast to them for not withering away in the face of hate.

Dear India, you are a microcosm of what world is at large, a diverse and multilingual society, and we love you the way you are. Shine On!

Cheers,
Mohammad Ayatullah
