A woman called off her wedding after the groom failed to get a toilet built at his residence, in time for the wedding.

“The groom had promised to get a toilet constructed at his residence ahead of the marriage. But he didn’t,” she said.

The match between the 25-year-old woman from Lucknow and the man had been finalised after he had agreed to build a toilet at his house by the day of the wedding. The wedding, facilitated by a local NGO, was to be organised as part of a mass ceremony on Sunday.

However, the woman, who has finished high school, called off the wedding on Saturday after she found that the toilet had not been built, the NGO said.

The woman’s family members backed her, it added.

Although the woman’s family claimed that the police were approached in this regard, officials at the Barra police station said they were not aware of any such matter. The NGO, after hearing about the woman’s stand, found another match for her.
