As Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend released, two things drew a lot of attention. Firstly, the ‘Myself from Village Area’ meme, and then its stereotypical portrayal of Biharis. While some were of the opinion that Arjun Kapoor’s character was nowhere close to that of an actual Bihari, few others thought that it was just a fictional character that did not particularly refer to the entire populace.

We spoke to the people of Patna and let them have a say in the matter.

A majority of the people thought the film showed the Bihari community in poor light, especially when a large number of IAS officers belong to the state.

Many people find the film interesting and entertaining. I don’t think the condition of Bihari students is shown correctly. Most of the IAS aspirants are from Bihar.

A few people opined that Chetan Bhagat, and subsequently Suri, were not wrong in any way as they showed the actual reality.

I don’t think Mohit Suri has shown anything wrong. He has just projected the actual condition of a Bihari student who received his initial education from a Hindi medium school.
