Amid talk of a salt shortage across North India, Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday dismissed the rumours as baseless.

Paswan’s statement comes at a time when panic spread across different parts of Uttar Pradesh, after worried residents rushed to markets to stock up on one of the most essential commodities. From Moradabad to Allahabad, retail shops witnessed heavy footfall. Some even were forced to stay open till midnight.

Meanwhile, two people from UP’s Banda have been arrested on charges of black marketeering.
