In a video that has surfaced, a professor of the Rajiv Gandhi government college in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur is seen trying to touch the feet of activists purportedly belonging to the ABVP, after they allegedly called him "anti-national".
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 26 September, when the professor in question, Dinesh Gupta, reportedly told the ABVP activists not to raise slogans as it was causing disturbance in his classroom. The activists were going to give a memorandum to the principal of the college over delay in the announcement of exam results, reported The Indian Express.
The ABVP members reportedly said they were told not to chant 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' by the professor, who was even told that an FIR could be registered against him.
As per The Indian Express report, the professor went on leave for three days a day later. Regarding the incident, he was quoted by media reports as saying:
In the meantime, Yashpal Sisodiya, the MLA from Mandsaur, stated that the professor wasn't told by the activists to touch their feet, adding that he would tell the students to apologise if they had made a mistake.
