Politicians from across the NDA extended their best to Ram Nath Kovind, who was sworn in as India’s 14th President on Tuesday.

The NDA’s Vice Presidential nominee Venkaiah Naidu, who had earlier worked with Kovind in the party, said he felt “personally elated at Kovind’s appointment.”

His colleague and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who too had worked with the newly-appointed President, said he expected the “country to develop” under India’s second Dalit President, who comes from a “humble background.”

NDA ally Shiv Sena too sang in unison, labelling Kovind as India’s, and not just the ruling coalition’s, President.
