Who will sit on Maharashtra’s throne and who will be given the power to govern the state?

Vidharbha’s Chandarpur is an important region in the contest – and one where the opposition Congress clocked wins during the Lok Sabha elections. So will the public’s choice be the same for the Assembly elections too, or will they vote for BJP-Shiv Sena?

Vandhana Vele, a resident of the region, says that the government is doing nothing for farmers and the underprivileged, and is not doing anything to boost the education of children either. She also asserts that the government is falling behind in the healthcare department too.

“The government is busy doing other things. People don’t have access to clean drinking water. We face a lot of difficulties. Unemployment is a huge issue. People are being employed only on a contract basis.”

On the other hand, retired public servant Nana Agre says that he has never seen so much work done in Vidharbha done before, with metros, roads and more being built.

“Looking at Devendra Fadnavis and the work that he has done, I feel that the BJP should stay in power forever.”

A software engineer by profession, Siddhant Yadav says that educated people have to shift to Mumbai or Delhi to search for jobs. “If some company would have come here,” he says, “then we wouldn’t have to go anywhere.”

After exploring Chandarpur, it was clear that winning the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections will not be an easy task for the BJP. In 2014, BJP had won six out of four seats.
