On a Facebook Live chat with The Quint’s Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia, Piyush Goyal, Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre has mega “power” plans for Uttar Pradesh, including electricity for each and every house in the state by October next year.

He said that those who argue that through an opaque political funding the centre will benefit, don’t understand finance.

This will benefit opposition parties more. I have been in the opposition and I know this. When we’d collect donations, then I had seen people being scared to do so, and said that if we give you money, other parties might victimise us.
