A blood-curdling video has surfaced from Hyderabad of a father assaulting his three-year-old son in front of police personnel.

A 33-second clip of the incident shows an allegedly drunk Shiva Goud walking with his toddler, who is struggling to get out of his grip.

He first throws the child up in the air, and then flips him behind his back, holding him upside down.

Shiva then rushes towards an auto-rickshaw and slams the child against the three-wheeler with a lot of force. The child lies motionless on the ground, as the bystanders, including the mother, scream in shock and horror.

Shiva then picks up the child and refuses to hand him over.

The incident took place at 2 am on Monday, 9 July, and two police personnel were present at the spot when it happened. The son has been admitted to Niloufer Hospital and is said to be stable.

Speaking to The News Minute, Narasimha Reddy, inspector from the Jagadgirigutta locality, said, “We received a call on 100 (emergency service) reporting nuisance in Srinivasanagar Colony at 2 am. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused was abusing his wife and was not cooperating with the police. While our people were there, he suddenly flung his three-year-old son and hit him against the auto.”

The inspector also said that Shiva fled the spot after the assault. “We are trying to nab him. The boy’s mother did not file a complaint, despite this incident. But we have taken a suo-motu case,” he said.

Shiva Goud has been booked under the Child Care and Protection Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act that deals with punishment for cruelty to children.

The policeman told The News Minute that the child’s condition was stable and he was recovering at the Nilofer Hospital in Hyderabad.
