As heavy rains lash Uttarakhand, a State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) team pulled a horse to safety from the overflowing Yamuna in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi on 27 August 2018. The team used cables to drag the horse away from the force of the river. One of the team members propelled himself along the cables. The cables were connected to the horse and it was pulled along to the riverbank.

Heavy rains have resulted in at least two deaths in the state. Further rains are expected over the next two days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

Heavy rains and flooding have disrupted life, causing damage to life and property in several parts of the country this year. The most affected state has been Kerala, where the death toll has crossed 300.
