Cricket fans throughout the country revelled as India beat Pakistan by 124 runs (DLS method) in their Champions Trophy opener in Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday.
BCCI Acting President CK Khanna congratulated the team and credited the Indian domestic structure and the Indian Premier League for the team’s success.
Indian fans took to streets and celebrated the victory with fireworks and drums. While fans were all praise for Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Man of the Match Yuvraj Singh, they left no opportunity to draw parallels between the victory win and Indian Army’s surgical strikes on Pakistan.
Indian twitterati expressed joy over the win, while their Pakistani counterparts were left understandably heart-broken, calling for a serious revamp on their domestic structure.
India have kick-started their Champions Trophy title-defence positively, moving to the top spot of Group ‘B’ with the resounding win. Team India will now face Sri Lanka at the Kennington Oval on Thursday.
