Sudeep Shukla, a hearing- and speech-impaired ma,n quit his job at Infosys to contest the 2018 Assembly Elections in Madhya Pradesh. Sudeep will contest the polls as an independent candidate from Satna.
Sudeep, a software engineer at Infosys, was earning Rs 1 lakh per month. However, he quit his job in a bid serve the people.
If he wins the election, Sudeep will be the first hearing- and speech-impaired person to become an MLA in this country.
Madhya Pradesh has always been a vanguard in an inclusive democracy. For instance, the state elected the first transgender person to public office in 1998. Shabnam Mausi was an elected member of the Madhya Pradesh State Legislative Assembly from 1998 to 2003.
In 1999, the country's first eunuch mayor Kamla Jaan was elected from Katni municipality in the state. Another eunuch was elected as a mayor from Sagar in the year 2009.
