The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be meeting at the Sevagram Ashram at Wardha in Maharashtra on 2 October, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary.

The party will discuss the country’s social, political and cultural atmosphere and pass a resolution urging people to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of love, peace and brotherhood.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh will be leading the deliberations.

Why Wardha for CWC Meet?

On 2 October, Rahul and other Congress leaders will first attend a prayer service in Sevagram Ashram and then participate in a padyatra.

Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 12 years of his life in Sevagram Ashram. The outline of the Quit India Movement was also drawn here.

Congress says it will launch the Gaddi Choro Andolan against the Narendra Modi government from Wardha and spread Gandhiji’s message across the nation.

The message that Congress will try to send out is that there has been a dearth of truth, non-violence and brotherhood in the current political scenario across the country. Instead, the politics of dishonesty, violence and hatred is prevalent.
