Army Jawans Killed in Qazikund, Kashmir Receive Guard of Honour

The two jawans were killed when their convoy was attacked by militants in Qazikund, Jammu and Kashmir.

Slain army men G Manivannan and Naik Dipak Maity were awarded a funeral with full military honours, along with a guard of honour in their respective hometowns of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu and Midnapore, West Bengal on Monday.

The two jawans were killed when their convoy was attacked by militants in Qazikund in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. They were reportedly travelling from Jammu to Srinagar when they were attacked near Hillar village on the National highway. Four other jawans were injured.

Forty-three-year-old Maity is survived by his wife and 13-year-old daughter while 25-year-old Mannivanan is survived by his parents.

The Tamil Nadu government awarded an ex-gratia amount of Rs 20 lakh to Manivannan’s family.
