AIADMK supporters broke out into celebrations outside Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence as early trends showed the ruling party in the state leading on 93 seats. This would make Jayalalithaa the first Tamil Nadu CM to beat anti-incumbency since 1984. She will be sworn in on 23 May.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the AIADMK chief on her poll victory.
