While some voters do not exercise their right to vote, there are others who fulfill their duty with great enthusiasm.

Young and old alike had queued up to vote since early morning on Monday, in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. But what was heartening was the fact that some of them had turned up braving intense heat in some place and even drizzle in others. Some elderly voters were seen being carried to the voting stations in a makeshift dollies.

In a historic moment for the transgender community in Kerala, two persons of the ‘third gender’ voted in the assembly elections. Surya, a mimicry artist and Suji, the only two to be listed as ‘third gender’ in the state electoral roll, said this was an exciting moment for them as the society has acknowledged their community.

An otherwise shy bride came to the polling station in all her bridal finery as other voters and shutterbugs clicked. In another instance a newly wedded couple came straight to the polling booth, while in the midst of the wedding rituals.
