Centre Opposes the Muslim Practice of Triple Talaq in SC

The central government opposed the practice of triple talaq in the Supreme Court, saying it is against the dignity of women and is misplaced in a secular country, on Friday.

The government filed an affidavit in the apex court opposing the practice of triple talaq. The Constitution gives the Muslim community rights to impose its own civil code to regulate matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance.

“Gender equality and dignity of women are non-negotiable and we can brook no compromise,” the government said in its affidavit, reports the Hindustan Times.
