A Molotov cocktail attack killed 16 in Cairo on Friday, wounding five. The attack hit the el-Sayad restaurant-cum-nightclub, which is in a basement, leaving people trapped with no escape route.

Egypt’s MENA news agency quotes an unnamed security official stating the attack was carried out by three men, who fled the scene on motorbikes.

The attack is rumoured to have followed a dispute. Despite the mounting tensions with militant movements within Egypt, no statement at the time of writing has linked the attack to terrorism.
