The Telegraph has cultivated an image of being anti-establishment. This was especially so after Aveek Sarkar took over as editor-in-chief 33 years ago.
In the run up to the 2016 state assembly polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was visibly displeased with the paper’s coverage of the elections. Banerjee accused The Telegraph of being “the most destructive element in Bengal.”
But now Sarkar has exited and it looks like it has everything to do with Banerjee.
