India’s ace shooter Abhinav Bindra made history by winning the first ever individual gold medal for India in an Olympics event. By winning the gold in the 10 metre Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he not only became the first Indian to achieve the feat but was also India’s first gold medal since 1980, when the Men’s field Hockey team won the gold.

The veteran olympian will be India’s flag-bearer in 2016 Rio Olympics. He was also named goodwill ambassador by Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Rio will be the last olympic if Bindra’s career. He is set to retire at the end of the competition.

The Quint wishes him best of luck for Mission Rio.
