South Korean electronics giant Samsung got a patent application published by the US Patent and Trademark Office related to foldable phones that may have features like a hologram and a projector.

The latest move adds to the company’s arsenal of patents related to foldable phones. The device envisaged in the patent folds like a book and may be released later this year, ubergizmo.com reported on Sunday.

According to the details in the patent, the foldable smartphone would have a new hinge system that would make possible to fold a large display in half when the handset is closed.

The foldable smartphones may include a hologram unit that “may show a stereoscopic image (3D image) in the air using interference of light”. On the other hand, the projector will project an image onto a screen that may be located inside or outside the device.

However, there is no description of any app related to the technology and about how users would access these features.
