BMW recently completed 100 years in the automotive industry, and to celebrate it, the company showcased its plans for the next 100 years. What’s interesting is that they shared their ideas not only in the form of presentations but also with a car that actually did all of that, well almost.

Called the BMW Vision Next 100, the car certainly looks like it belongs to the future.

BMW says that in the future, cars will be driven autonomously and will (of course) be safer. The first thing that you’ll notice is that the car combines sedan and coupe-type styling. What you won’t probably notice is that the tyres are covered and they aren’t just for aesthetics. When you turn the steering wheel, the body of the car changes shape to give space to the tyre to turn.

The Vision Next 100 also comes with two driving modes – Ease and Boost.

In the Boost mode, the vehicle operations are in the driver’s control. The Interior changes to suit the mode of travel and shows important information like ideal driving line, steering point and speed.

In the Ease mode, the vehicle operations are controlled by the car itself with the interior changing dramatically. The steering wheel and centre console retract, the headrests turn to the side, and the seats and door trim merge to form a single unit so that the driver and front-seat passenger can turn towards each other.

Currently, the BMW Vision Next 100 is on a world tour called ‘Iconic Impulses’, and will make a stop in China, UK and the USA.

In the UK, the Vision Vehicles of BMW Group’s British brands, Mini and Rolls-Royce, will also be unveiled. Its last port of call will be Los Angeles, USA, where BMW Motorrad will showcase its Vision Vehicle.
