Can Kinetic’s Electric Three Wheeler Be the Answer to Pollution?

Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions has forayed into electric vehicles with the launch of an electric three-wheeler Kinetic Safar, priced at Rs 1.38 lakh (on road, Delhi).

The company, which is part of Pune-based Kinetic Group, has already bagged an order worth Rs 400 crore from the UP government for the supply of 27,000 units of the Safar.

The order has to be completed within the next one year, she added. The Safar can go for 115 km on a single charge. Commenting on the sales network, Motwani said the company has begun with 15 outlets in Delhi/NCR, UP, Punjab and plans to scale it to 300 dealerships in the next three years. Kinetic Safar has been approved by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and meets all government safety norms.

The vehicle, which comes with an all steel body, has a maximum speed of 25 km per hour and can carry four passengers plus the driver.

Although it is a good attempt, it will be interesting to note how many of these actually make it to the road and what difference they make when it comes to controlling pollution levels.
