Chennai Super Kings' last league match against Kings XI Punjab saw Kedar Jadhav injure his left shoulder while fielding in the deep. Jadhav had immediately left the field and it was reported that he would be out from action at least for two weeks. The news had sent a scare in the Indian camp ahead of the World Cup.

But now, the Indian selection committee, led by MSK Prasad have been informed by Patrick Farhart , the Indian team physiotherapist, that Jadhav’s injury may not be as serious as many were believing it to be, according to ESPN Cricinfo

They have been informed that Kedar Jadhav will be fully fit before the Indian team departs for the World Cup on 22 May.

It is also believed that the selection committee will wait as long as possible before naming his replacement. As per the ICC rules, changes in the 15-man preliminary squad are permitted till 23 May.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings’ head coach, Stephen Fleming, confirmed that Kedar Jadhav will not take any further part in the tournament.

“Well, he is out for us, and then it is just about being accurate with that assessment. He was going through the scans and working with Patrick Farhart, so there’s obviously one eye now on the World Cup and getting him fit. But from our point of view, he is certainly out of the tournament.”

Rishabh Pant, Ambati Rayudu, Axar Patel, Navdeep Saini and Ishant Sharma are part of the standby list. The selection panel will have to choose among these players if Jadhav isn’t cleared to board the flight to England.

India will start their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5.
