South African captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat against India in match number eight of the ICC World Cup 2019 at Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, 5 June.

Hashim Amla returns for South Africa. Meanwhile for India, pacer Mohammad Shami has been left out with both Kuldeep and Chahal playing along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kedar Jadhav returns to the playing XI after injury.

South Africa have already suffered two huge losses in this tournament and will be keen to register their first win of the tournament.

The Proteas have lost the opening game against the hosts England by a massive 104-run margin and played the second game against Bangladesh. They lost to Bangladesh by 21 runs.

On the eve of the Wednesday's match, South African paceman Dale Steyn was ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury.

The Indian squad are second in the ICC ODI rankings and purely on the basis of statistics, are favourites to get the better of South Africa.
