Pakistan ended on the losing side of yet another India vs Pakistan World Cup game as they lost Sunday’s match by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Chasing 337 for victory, Pakistan were 166/6 when rain interrupted play and once it restarted after the break, as per the new equation, Pakistan’s revised target was 302 runs from 40 overs. This meant that they needed 136 runs from last five overs which was a near impossible task.
After the game, Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed said that despite winning the toss, his team’s poor bowling show cost them the match.
When asked about Pakistan’s plan to tackle Rohit Sharma, Sarfaraz said that he wanted his bowlers to keep it short against the Indian right-hander.
Pakistan came in with two spinners for this match, to get the better of the Indian batsmen, but the ploy didn’t work as both of them went for runs. While Imad Wasim went for 49 off his spell, Shadab Khan went for 61 off 9 overs.
When asked to specify the reason behind the loss to India, the Pakistan captain said it was the loss of four wickets in three overs which turned the game around for them.
The Pakistan skipper concluded by saying the road ahead will get tougher for his team after this loss and it will be a challenge to win all the remaining matches.
