Umpires Break for Lunch With Only 2 Runs Left, Twitter Goes Nuts

The umpires drew flak from TV commentators and cricket pundits alike.

Indians were glued to their TV screens and South Africans were almost making their way out of the stadium, given the predictability of the match, when the Umpires suddenly announced a 40-minute lunch break.

Cricket truly is "a game of glorious uncertainty." Nothing really can be predicted in cricket. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you don't know when will you be asked to stop playing and ushered in for lunch.

No, we’re not talking about the gully cricket you played in the hallowed gullies of your childhood which was almost always disrupted by your mother calling you in to finish your meal before it went cold; We’re talking about the One Day International series between India and South Africa.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Centurion. Our cricket team was teetering on the absolute brink of victory, Indians were glued to their TV screens and South Africans were just packing their bags and gradually making their way out of the stadium, given the predictability of the match, when the Umpires suddenly announced a 40-minute lunch break.

This did so in keeping with the letter of regulations. However, they drew flak from TV commentators and cricket pundits.
