BCCI’s defiant attitude will not lead anywhere: SC
The Board of Control for Cricket in India in all it’s current capacity and autonomy may cease to exist, come Friday.
In a Supreme Court hearing chaired by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur himself, the BCCI was categorically instructed to give a written undertaking that they will implement the recommendations made by the Lodha Committee. If the board fail to do so by Friday, the apex court hinted that it would step in and appoint a fresh set of administrators to run the sport in India instead.
The Supreme Court also directed the BCCI to stop transferring money to State Associations till they implement the changes recommended by the Lodha Committee. To this, the board’s council Kapil Sibal replied that the states were not under the BCCI.
At the end of the marathon hearing, the BCCI still declined to give an undertaking that they would not disburse grants to state bodies or abide by all directions of Lodha panel.
The Supreme Court in turn has reserved its judgement till Friday.
