Exactly 20 years ago, India was gifted with two Indian cricketing stalwarts – Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.

Ganguly made his Test debut with a brilliant 131, and Dravid made his mark with an elegant 95 against England at Lord’s on 20 June 1996.

The Karnataka batsman reminisced the day on Facebook:

When Indian cricket was rocked by the match-fixing scandal in 2000, Sourav Ganguly, who had just taken over as captain and the then vice-captain Rahul Dravid, handled the situation efficiently.

They led the team with discipline and honour, which helped India perform well at home and overseas. As the men in blue began performing consistently, the faith in cricket among Indian fans was restored.

Then, Ganguly and Dravid went on to be a part of many memorable victories which include, the ODI series win against England (away) in 2002, the Test series win against England (away) in 2006, the Test match win against Australia in Adelaide in 2003, the Test match win against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006 and so on.

The living legends have contributed more than 40,000 runs to international cricket.
