Sania Mirza and her Belgian partner Kirsten Flipkens advanced to the second round of the women's doubles competition at Wimbledon, after a straight set win against N Osaka and S Zhang. The Indian-Belgian duo beat the latter 6-4, 6-3.

However, India’s Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan faced disappointment as he was ousted from the first round of men’s doubles along with his American partner J Donaldson. The two, however, played a thrilling five-set match against UK’s J Clarke and M Willis, who came back from two sets down to win the match. The final scorecard read 6-7, 5-7, 7-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Indian pair Purav Raja and Divij Sharan moved to the second round of the men’s doubles draw after beating Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund and Potugal’s Joao Sousa 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

The Indian pair had 10 break points but managed to convert only two in the first set, while their opponents converted 2 out of 6 break points in the entire match.

In the first set no team broke the other team’s serve and it went into a tie-breaker, in the second set the British-Portuguese pair converted a break point and eventually won the set 6-3.
