Saira Sirohi, a 16-year-old state level swimmer, committed suicide in Ghaziabad, The Indian Express reported. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday midnight in R.K. Puram residential colony.

The police said Sirohi was found hanging in her bedroom. Saira hung herself with a shawl from an iron frame above a door. The police said, they didn’t find any suicide note on the spot.

The daughter of a retired police officer was preparing for her class XI exams, which were supposed to begin next month.

The 16-year-old drank a glass of milk and went to her room. She waited for her 11-year-old, who stays in the same room, to sleep and then at 1:30 am, the little sister started screaming.

At 1.30 am, my younger daughter started crying loudly. I thought someone had entered the house and rushed to their room. But I couldn’t open the door easily though it had not been bolted from inside. When I managed to push it open, I found Saira had hanged herself from the grille above the door. I brought her down and put her on the bed but she was cold and stiff.

Saira was dreaming of representing India in the Olympics. She had recently won three gold medals at the CBSE National Championship held in Meerut.
