Kolkata Knight Riders registered their second straight win at home as they beat Kings XI Punjab by 28 runs on Wednesday. Andre Russell won the Man of the Match award for his belligerent strokeplay and good display with the ball.

He scored 48 off 17 balls as he rode his luck a little bit. An on-field error from Punjab turned out to be the turning point of the game as Russell’s innings ende up being the difference between the two teams.

Earlier in the day, Punjab won the toss and asked Kolkata to bat. Opening the innings Sunil Narine scored 24 off 9 balls while Chris Lynn fell rather cheaply.

Nitish Rana (63) and Robin Uthappa (67*) then struck fifties and added a 110-run stand to give momentum to the KKR innings.

The innings was then closed out with a flourish from the big West Indian whose power hitting thoroughly entertained the crowd.

Chasing 219 for victory, KXIP lost Chris Gayle (20) and KL Rahul (1) which took the sting out of their chase. Mayank Agarwal (58) and David Miller (59*) struck fifties but it was a little too late for Punjab.

The KKR bowlers kept taking wickets at regular wickets which made the job tougher for the Kings. At last they fell short by 28 runs.

As the Kolkata Knight Riders are now at the top of the table, Twitter couldn’t stop praising them for there clinical performance.
