Before Sri Lanka’s game against England, a picture of pacer Lasith Malinga went viral. The picture, which showed a purportedly overweight Malinga, quickly became the subject of trolling online.

Interestingly, former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene used the same picture to praise his exploits against England, the hosts of the Cricket World Cup.

Malinga took four wickets for 43 to dismantle England’s batting line-up in Leeds. Jayawardene shared the picture on his official Instagram account with the caption, “Well bowled Mali!!! Thought I would share the most talked about picture last week for all you fans.”

Coming into this game, Sri Lanka had just won one game against Afghanistan, with two of their games being affected by rain.

Not only did Malinga bowl Sri Lanka to victory, he also got to 50 wickets in World Cups. In the process, he bettered his former Sri Lankan teammate Chaminda Vaas, who had 49 wickets in World Cups.

The England win keeps Sri Lanka in the race for the knockouts and a place in the final four.
