Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the Cricket World Cup owing to his broken left thumb.
Scans showed that Dhawan sustained a fracture while playing a delivery from Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins on 9 June. The International Cricket Council approved Rishab Pant as his replacement in India’s 15-man squad.
Dhawan has taken the setback in stride. He has taken time off to recover from his injury and seems to be in positive spirits as he supports the Indian Team with congratulatory messages on Twitter and Instagram.
Recently, Shikhar was seen enjoying his time-off with his wife and son.
Dhawan hopes to make a speedy recovery while spending time with his loved ones.
Shikhar has been backing the Men in Blue in every match.
He took to Twitter to acknowledge the team’s performance after they emerged victorious against West Indies at Old Trafford on Thursday, 27 June.
Dhawan posted a video on social media to confirm his departure from the tournament and to thank his supporters.
In the video, he said it is time for him to recover and prepare for India's next series.
India will face the host, England, on Sunday, 30 June in Birmingham.
