A day after Ambati Rayudu was pipped by the "three-dimensional" Vijay Shankar for the upcoming World Cup, he, in his latest social media post on Tuesday, 16 April, said that he has "ordered 3D glasses" to watch the tournament.

Although it was unclear what the 33-year-old batsman was hinting at with his tweet, it seemed the remark was alluded to Chief Selector MSK Prasad's statement over his selection.

On Monday, 15 April, Prasad, while announcing India’s 15-member World Cup, said:

“We did give a few more chances to Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. He can bat, if the conditions are overcast, he can bowl, plus, he is a fielder. We are looking at Vijay Shankar as a Number 4.”

But Rayudu’s exclusion from the squad not only raised eyebrows of cricket experts, but also fans, who took to Twitter, reacting to his ‘3D’ post.

Meanwhile, cricketer-turn-politician Gautam Gambhir told news agency IANS that he “feels bad for Rayudu”.

"There is Ambati Rayudu, who missed out as well. He is averaging 48 in ODIs... I feel it is far more disheartening for someone like Rayudu." Gambhir said.

Rayudu averages 47.05 in his 55-match career, with a strike rate of 79.04.

He has been out of form lately, averaging just 30.87 in his last 10 innings and has scored at a rate of 75.3 with just one fifty.
