Sonia Lather One Step From Being Crowned Boxing World Champ
Sonia is through to the final of the Boxing World Championship.
Indian favorites MC Mary Kom and Sarita Devi may have disappointed at the Women’s Boxing World Championship but it looks like a new star has emerged in Astana.
Sonia Lather has fought her way into the Finals of the 57kg category, assuring herself on at least a silver medal at the event.
The only Indian in the semi-finals in the tournament, Sonia thumped Kazakhastan’s Aizhan Khojabekova 3-0 to register a memorable triumph. Sonia completely dominated the bout. Attacking from the very beginning, she timed her jabs and punches to perfection, as she did her defence. Aizhan tried her best in the final round to make a comeback but Sonia’s defence kept her on top.
Unlike Mary and Sarita however, Sonia’s weight category is not part of Olympics.
