She might be out of the women’s doubles draw but Sania Mirza has ensured she reaches the business end of the French Open this year. Partnering Croatia’s Ivan Dodig, Sania has marched into the semi-finals of the mixed doubles draw.

The second seed Indo-Croat pair overcame a mid-match lapse to beat the seventh seeded Yung-Jan Chan and Max Mirnyi 6-1 3-6 10-6 in the quarterfinal contest on Thursday.

The win now also gets her another step closer to a finals clash against Leander Paes and Martina Hingis. The world number 1 Indian last won a mixed doubles Grand Slam at the 2014 US Open with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares.

In the semis, Sania and Dodig will face third seeds and local favorites Kristina Mladenovic and Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who got the better of American eighth seeds Bob Bryan and Coco Vandeweghe 2-6 6-2 13-11 in their quarterfinal match.
