Defending champion Sania Mirza along and her new partner Czech Republic’s Barbora Strycova beat Britain’s Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith 6-3 6-1 in the women's doubles event on Wednesday to commence to the second round of the Australian Open.

After the British pair failed to convert the two break-points they got, the fourth-seeded Mirza-Strycova made a decisive break to win the first set 6-3.

Currently, World Number 2 in the women’s doubles ranking, Sania, split with long time doubles partner Martina Hingis in August last year. This is the first Australian Open for the Mirza and Strycova together.
