The Indian ODI opening batsman Rohit Sharma smashed the Australians around the ground in the first ODI at Perth on the way to a huge score of 171*.

This 28-year-old broke a few records, including one of which was held by the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar during the defining innings.

1. Rohit Breaks Sachin’s Record

Rohit Sharma became the fastest to score 1000 runs against Australia in ODIs. He took 19 innings to get there, whereas the previous holder of the record, Sachin Tendulkar reached the milestone in 20 innings.

2. Sharma Strikes Highest Score

The Mumbai lad registered India’s highest individual score in ODIs in Australia. Rohit beat Yuvraj Singh’s 139, which he scored in Sydney, 2004.

3. Rohit Beats Viv Richards

Rohit Sharma’ 171 broke Viv Richards’ 37-year-old record of the highest individual score by a batsman from the visiting team in Australia.

The West Indian had scored 153 in Melbourne.
