IPL 2019 Points Table: Despite Loss, CSK Still on Top
Chennai Super Kings was without their Captain, MS Dhoni, as the the veteran cricketer decided to take some rest.
Sunrisers Hyderabad comprehensively defeated Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 17 April.
In the absence of captain MS Dhoni, who decided to rest for the game, Suresh Raina led CSK.
After CSK won the toss and opted to bat, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis got off to a flyer, posting 70/0 in 9 overs.
The wicket of Shane Watson triggered a collapse, and soon after CSK found themselves reeling at 101-5. Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu struggled till the end and couldn’t help the side post a competitive total. Jadeja finished with 10 off 20 balls whereas Rayudu scored 25 off 21 deliveries.
CSK eventually finished with a below par 132-5 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 133, SRH got off to a better start than CSK did, as Warner was at his attacking best. The southpaw smashed 50 off just 25 balls before getting out to Deepak Chahar. Nonetheless, the job was done as SRH had a massive score of 68 at the end of the powerplay.
Jonny Bairstow anchored the innings to perfection with a well made 44-ball 61, as SRH eventually chased down the total with 3.1 overs to spare.
David Warner was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his quickfire half-century.
With this win, Hyderabad now move up to the fifth spot on the points table.
Team Standings
Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore find themselves at the bottom of the table having won just one game so far. Chennai Super Kings lead the table with Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Kings XI Punjab holding the second, third and fourth places, respectively.
With the big win vs CSK, Sunrisers Hyderabad would like to continue their good work. Kolkata Knight Riders would like to get back to winning ways after losing their momentum midway into the tournament. Rajasthan Royals have lost 6 of their 8 matches and will look to make strong amends going forward.
At the end of the group stage, the top four teams will qualify for the play-offs
