Good News.

The youngest unit of BCCI - Uttarakhand Cricket Association - became the first state association to ensure financial security to its first-class players.

The home state of Sourav Ganguly’s deputy Mahim Verma, Uttarakhand took the lead by announcing retainer ships for its first-class cricketers. The juniors will be getting scholarships.

Sourav Ganguly has put the contract system for first-class cricketers from state cricket association on his agenda after he became the BCCI president.

For the senior players’ contracts, Uttarakhand will follow the BCCI formula as and when announced.

Meanwhile, a state cricket association official has told Hindustan Times that even if BCCI did not introduce contracts (for State players), Uttarakhand will go ahead with its own formula.

“There is no fixed number for contracted players at the senior level. The association has decided it will award performers. This initiative was needed because at the junior level, the equipment is expensive and kids find it difficult to buy. At the senior level, there are no jobs and no security for first-class players. There is uncertainty, so we wanted to ensure some level of security,” the daily has quoted the official as saying.

Uttarakhand was inducted into BCCI in August this year. The state has confirmed five scholarships of ₹ 10,000 per month each for the junior boys and girls.
